🏗️ Game Setup
-
Find Your Spot: Choose a flat playing surface — grass, concrete, or sand all work great.
-
Board Placement: Set up the boards directly facing each other, 27 feet apart (front edge to front edge). For kids or beginners, move them closer.
-
Teams: Cornhole can be played with 2 or 4 players.
-
In a 4-player game, teammates stand directly across from each other.
-
In a 2-player game, you’ll walk to the opposite board and throw back from the other side after each round.
-
-
Pick Your Bags: Each team gets 4 bags of the same color — time to toss!
🌀 Game Play
-
Decide Who Throws First: Flip a coin or play “closest to the hole” to determine who starts.
-
Alternate Tosses: Players take turns throwing one bag at a time until all 8 have been tossed.
-
Stay Behind the Line: No part of your foot can cross the front edge of the board during a throw.
-
Ground Rules:
-
Bags that touch the ground before landing on the board do not count — remove them immediately.
-
Bags hanging off the edge and touching the ground also do not count.
-
-
End of Round: Once all bags have been thrown, calculate the score (see below). The team with the higher round total throws first next round.
🧮 Scoring
After all 8 bags are thrown for that round, score as follows:
-
1 Point → Any bag on the board (called “on the board” or “woody”)
-
3 Points → Any bag that goes through the hole (called “in the hole” or “cornhole”)
🧾 Scoring Example:
If Team A scores 9 points and Team B scores 5 points, Team A earns 4 points for the round.
Only one team scores per round — points cancel each other out.
🏆 Winning the Game
The first team to reach 21 points (or more) wins the game!
If both teams reach 21 in the same round, continue playing until one team leads by 2 points.
💡 Pro Tips from Warphole®
-
Aim for consistency: Keep your throw smooth and under control — your best shot is often a gentle arc, not a fastball.
-
Block or slide: Use strategic tosses to block your opponent’s shot or slide your bag in for the win.
-
Tournament play: Most tournaments follow the same rules, but always confirm scoring and distance before you start.
